About this gentle dentistry guide and its sources

How this independent downtown dental guide uses professional sources, separates advertising and handles browser-local visit notes.

What this website is for

Downtown Gentle Dentist is an independent information guide about a considerate dental approach in downtown Toronto. It helps children’s caregivers, adults and seniors understand dental fear, ask practical questions and prepare for care. It is not a dental clinic, a referral authority, an appointment service or a substitute for an individual dental assessment.

The site does not claim a staffed location, named treating dentist or clinical relationship with a reader. No clinician has been invented as an author or reviewer. The articles summarize the linked professional and public-health guidance in plain language. References support the explanation; they do not imply that a source organization endorses this website.

Our standard for a useful dental guide

The subject in a title should continue naturally through the body. A page about dental needles should explain dental injections and the patient conversation around them. A guide about older adults should discuss actual oral-health and access concerns, rather than replacing the subject with generic wellness language.

Each care guide starts with an at-a-glance summary, explains a specific problem or decision, offers questions for the dentist and links its sources. Illustrative examples are labelled as examples. They are not testimonials, reported service encounters or guarantees of an outcome.

What gentle means here

Gentle is not a separate dental credential. We use it to describe observable care behaviours: listening, explaining findings, assessing pain, discussing choices, seeking appropriate consent and agreeing on communication during treatment. Those behaviours do not eliminate all discomfort, uncertainty or clinical risk. What is appropriate depends on the patient and proposed care.

How to use the sources

We prioritize the Ontario dental regulator, Canadian dental organizations, public-health bodies and other primary professional guidance. Ontario-specific requirements govern the local registration and consent discussions. Sources from other jurisdictions support general explanations; their local phone numbers, funding arrangements and regulations should not be assumed to apply in Toronto.

Sources were checked on 18 October 2026. Clinical recommendations and professional requirements can change. Follow your treating clinician’s individual instructions, and verify current registration or sedation information with the regulator. A source link is a route to more detail, not proof that every possible procedure is right for every patient.

Commercial listings are separate

The Find a Dentist page is the place for listing and advertising enquiries. Future paid profiles will be clearly labelled, and payment will not create a clinical quality ranking. No paid listings are published in this initial edition. Educational content should remain understandable and useful without contacting an advertiser.

For publishing or commercial enquiries, use gentle.care@downtowngentledentist.com. Do not send patient records or confidential medical details. This is not an urgent dental inbox or a way to book treatment.

Privacy and local visit notes

The visit-notes tool runs in your browser. It does not send form entries to a server, email address, database or analytics service, and it does not use browser storage to preserve them. Copying puts text on your device’s clipboard; downloading creates a text file on your device. Those copies remain under your control. Clear the form when finished, particularly on a shared device.

The site has no advertising trackers, embedded third-party map or patient-account system. The hosting service may process ordinary technical request information to serve the website. External source links and email links open other services with their own policies. Your device or browser may retain history or form information according to its settings.

When you need care rather than another article

New or worsening pain, swelling or dental injury needs appropriate professional advice. Difficulty breathing or swallowing with swelling needs emergency medical help. This website cannot assess severity, diagnose a tooth, prescribe medication or determine whether a particular treatment is suitable for you.

Source library

The references below are grouped through the articles where they are used. For the geographic boundary, we use the City of Toronto’s wider downtown planning area; the site’s map is a schematic orientation aid rather than navigation or clinic-location data.
